My objective is to make sure that all kidney patients have good quality of life objectives as well as make sure that treatments are safe and effective for all patients. To advocate to new patients, all options, choices, pros and cons of treatment and transplantation. Speaks to groups of my personal story, and advises both patients and staff of communication difficulties and offers suggestions on how to increase productivity on both sides.As a thirty plus year survivor of in clinic hemodialysis, I strive to offer other hemo patients hope, compassion, understanding and the need to weigh the options that best suit them. Give them the knowledge of what the procedure does; how it affects the body and mind. Many new patients don't know what to expect or what to ask about treatments, medications or side effects. I attempt to arm them with just asking the basics: who will I deal with, why is this course of treatment necessary, when will I see my doctors, etc...The better understanding the patients have, I believe, the better and smoother the transition goes into becoming a dialysis patient.
