One can specialize or one can dabble in a little bit of everything - there's no wrong or right. For me, being skilled in various genres of photography keeps perspective fresh. Producing high-quality work in all conditions, working intimately with people or documenting an event...sprinkling your own style on your work without causing distraction. Being present but staying out of the way. Several fellow sports photogs have told me that my images - particularly college basketball - 'have a distinct look.' Brides and grooms who have employed Morton Photography have said the same, so I like to believe there's something to it. Horn-tooting makes me slightly uncomfortable, but lastly...if you can photograph an event - be it wedding, game, concert - and extract the feeling of the event with your images...I believe that is essential. If you photograph someone or something (dogs incl) and extract their personalities with your imagery, that is also essential. Photography is art, a creative outlet, a means of communicating. It is a window into your mind, allowing others to view themselves or events through your eyes...but don't allow ego to interfere. The work is a privilege. I'm also wordy;)
