Returned to private sector ownership in 2011 after 8 years of operating as a public & private partnership, this was a destination marketing company representing East and West Sussex with an active B2B and B2C communications programme. When all funding dried up, I continued to run the VisitSussex popular website, social media channels and press activity on a voluntary basis. Regrettably the 'day job' progressively reduced the time I had available and I took the reluctant decision to close the company.

TMI arranges two high profile annual events to raise the profile of destination management, bring industry practitioners together for the latest innovation and updates and raise funds to support continual professional development.I chaired the steering group that developed these events - from content and speakers to location and pricing. We heard from some amazing industry leaders and learned new skills - it was a terrific experience.

Local government Destination Marketing, Visitor Services, Arts and Event management. I started as the Tourism and Arts Manager and, after reorganisation became Cultural Services Manager. The role covered external partnerships, funding bids and strategic planning as well as running two commercial art galleries and the award winning visitor attraction Newhaven Fort. With HLF bids we developed a new gallery dedicated to WW1 to complement the Home Front exhibition. During my time at Lewes I was heavily involved in sustainable tourism development and worked extensively alongside the South Downs AONB on sustainable access and the Tourism without Traffic pilot project. I also headed up the Arts in Sussex marketing initiative working with Sussex Arts Marketing.I become familiar with EU funding - especially Interreg - and worked on delivering several tourism projects covering cycling, gardens and culture.

Destination management - working with local attractions and hotels on travel trade initiatives, developing strong industry steering groups and marketing projects to deliver economic growth e.g wedding promotions, I also worked alongside the town centre manager and evolved the visitor information service.

The role was to build tourism's economic contribution to a sparsely populated yet wonderful area of Northumberland that covers Holy Island, Bamburgh and the Cheviot Hills along with historic walled town of Berwick-upon-Tweed. I instigated new marketing initiatives covering the museum, arts centre and sports centre, carried out insightful visitor research, developed industry partnerships and new events. During my time we created one of the country's first rural tourism strategies and several development projects including long distance footpath St Cuthbert's Way.
