I am passionate about impacting individuals and communities through effective policy-making. So far, my career has involved a variety of jobs, each developing unique skill sets I can bring to any organization. In my recent internship at Breville in the HR and Marketing departments, I was situated around experienced professionals, embracing the idea of “learning by osmosis”. Within two weeks in HR, I met with each team member, learning about their roles in recruitment, sustainability, law, and finance. I was also tasked with using Excel to calculate employee bonuses, along with benchmarking Breville’s corporate governance practices against those of other company’s.Over seven weeks in Marketing, I split time between the Social Media and Brand teams. Within Social Media, I created media captions aligning with Breville’s brand message. I also analyzed social media account performance for all regions and presented findings to the social media team. In the Brand team, I contributed to the development of a commercial ad script, highlighting key elements of the new “Fast Track Barista Pack” campaign. I also edited five “unsung” hero profiles” and refined storytelling to align with the “Faces of Coffee” campaign messaging. This 9 week experience cemented my readiness to take on full-time responsibilities and drive success for any organization.Earlier experiences provided similar personal and professional developmental opportunities. In the sporting realm, as a soccer referee I learnt conflict resolution in times of adversity, facing arguments from players, coaches and parents. As a soccer and basketball coach, I developed positive communication and leadership skills towards students. In hospitality, my experience at The Royal Hotel Paddington taught me customer service, and bartending skills. I also grew on a personal level, understanding that my skills are best expressed in a team setting. Playing your role to the best of your ability among a large staff at a bar is essential. In attempt to transfer this mindset to my experience at Breville, I learnt how a “playing your hardest for the betterment of the team” attitude is applicable to any team dynamic.
