Optical Coating Engineer

Current

Boston, Massachusetts, United States

I am responsible for designing new coatings for devices as well as taking measurements of devices post-deposition to assess the quality and performance of the film. I also use plasma in reactive ion etching to create nanostructures on optics that serve as anti-reflective coatings across a wide range of wavelengths. I am researching new nanostructure shapes, heights, and processes for applications in various wavelength spectrums. My role is also a leadership role where I am working with technicians and operators that I need to direct to achieve our engineering and production goals.

Mar 2024 - Present

Undergraduate Research Assistant

Laboratory For Physical Sciences

College Park, Maryland, United States

My work in Dr. Christopher Richardson’s Molecular Beam Epitaxy Focused Materials Science Research Group was focused on creating materials for use in quantum devices that can be superconductors at higher temperatures. Our research used Molecular Beam Epitaxy (MBE) to create films of material on Sapphire wafers that are incredibly precise and flat. The specific material that I was focused on was NbTiN, experimenting with different ratios of Nb to Ti. I diced Sapphire wafers that have NbTiN films into smaller devices that I then wirebonded, packaged, and loaded into the group’s Adiabatic Demagnetization Refrigerator (ADR). I also worked on the group's resonator project. I packaged and loaded resonator devices into a Dilution Refrigerator (DR). I took measurements of the devices using MATLAB code and started converting this code to Python to take advantage of the modules associated with Python.

Undergraduate Research Assistant

Laboratory For Physical Sciences

Prince George'S County, Maryland, United States

My work in Dr. Bruce Kane's Silicon Quantum Device and 2D Systems Research Group was focused on improving the quality and quantity of the gold nanoplatelets we produced. I independently examined processed wafers using the scanning electron microscope and later coordinated with Dr. Luke Robertson (a former postdoc) to improve the parameters of the projection stepper exposure along with other cleanroom processes in the photolithography. I also was responsible for designing a new photomask to be used with the GCA/MANN 5X Projection Stepper and produce new nanoplatelets with a different design.
