Rolls-Roycs Derby

Working in the unit engineering department for Rolls-Royce's new gas turbine engine, which will power the new Airbus A330neo.Role - Unit Engineer– Responsible for three units (new sensor and two filters). Developed technical skills and gained a more in depth knowledge of small components of this new Trent7000 engine. -Dealing with three different suppliers, attending weekly meetings to discuss engineering problems with the design, reviewing technical documents and providing feedback to the supplier were all tasks undertaken in this role.- Working with various teams such as Sub-Systems, Fuel Systems, Commodity, Commercials, Buyers, and Suppliers to finalise component design, requirements and plan design reviews. - Preparing for design reviews such as Concept Reviews, Preliminary Design Reviews and Critical Design Reviews and Final Design Definition Performance.- Developing technical skills such as writing requirements and reviewing technical documents such as DORA's, EMH Control Plans, FMEA, PFMEA, DFMEA, Qualification Test Procedures/Reports, ATP/ATR and CRD's.

As part of my degree, I was successful in securing a twelve month contract as a intern working for GE Aviation in Wales. This invaluable experience has enabled me to see the Aerospace industry in reality. The internship involved:• Managing the operations of the sub-assembly (Core and LPT) for the CFM 56 engine – Communicating with the build teams and working with them to get the modules built and sent to final build. This internship has improved my communication, team building and interpersonal skills. • Carrying out projects to improve the build process – This improved my networking skills within the business and bettered my trouble shooting skills as I was trying to work with people who were not in my department and solve problems, working closely with my teams. • Managing the health and safety department for the CFM 56 engine – This involved carrying out weekly walks through each section, highlighting in health and safety risks that needed attention.I am six months in now, and look forward to learning more about the the industry in the coming six months.
