Current Project: Hypertension-Pregnancy Related Left Ventricular Strain Analysis Using Histology and 4D-UltrasoundThe goal of this project is to investigate the dual effect of gestation and hypertension on left ventricular strain during a cardiac cycle by utilizing 4D ultrasound analysis and histology. 4DUS analysis provides a 3D model of the left ventricle, highlighting spatially the degree of strain throughout the ventricle during a cardiac cycle. Using histology stains, we can identify fibrosis of the ventricular endocardium and correlate the degree of fibrosis to the degree of hypertension, or hypertension and gestation combined.Previous Project: Ultrasound-based Quantification of Intervertebral Disc Strain under Dynamic Loading using Texture Correlation. The goal of this project was to collect ultrasound images under differing levels of cyclic loading, and use digital image correlation (DIC) analysis and machine learning in order to map strain through an intervertebral disc, and possibly correlate the degree of strain to herniation. Project duties included dissections, preparation of samples, data collection, and analysis through DIC and machine learning to analyze strain maps of an IVD.
