About Jake Watson
Throughout past work, volunteer and academic experiences I have developed a passion for the outdoors, ecological restoration and community projects. My undergraduate degree in International Development exposed me to many environmental issues associated with development, both within Canada as well as a broader international context. During my graduate studies in Ecosystem Restoration at Niagara College as well as my recent work experiences, I have gained a considerable amount of fieldwork experience. These opportunities have led to specialized experience in private landowner engagement, invasive species management, site preparation, planting projects, and the installation of habitat features. My previous role as an Ecosystem Restoration Field Tech for Conservation Halton involved working on several complex ecological restoration projects within the Halton region watershed including grassland, meadow, wetland and forest ecosystems, many of which include pit and mound designs, large ephemeral wetlands and habitat features (raptor perch poles, bat boxes, hibernaculums, habitat logs, woody debris, ect.). For my current role as a Forestry Specialist for GRCA, I am responsible for designing and implementing private land and community planting projects, overseeing planting contractors and allocating grants for private land planting projects in the southern half of the watershed. I hope that with my knowledge and skill-set I can help to improve the state of degraded, damaged, or destroyed ecosystems while gaining valuable experience and further insight into the fields of ecological restoration, stewardship and conservation.
Listed skills include Environmental Awareness, Leadership, Research, Microsoft Word, and 24 others.
