Having obtained a PhD in Sustainability and Waste Management, I have recently joined FJD Construction Ltd in the role of Project Manager. I am initially supplementing the company's existing Project Management offering whilst helping to develop our future environmental and sustainability aspirations.In my current position I am working as a Scheme Project Manager seconded within Network Rail on the following projects:- Smart Cameras and Powered Gates Project.This project involves installing Smart Cameras and Powered Operated Gate Openers (POGOs) at 170 User Worked Crossings across the UK. The aims of the project are to collect 24/7 census data and to increase safety at these crossings.- Walsall to Rugeley Linespeed Increase and Bloxwich Level Crossing RemovalMy role on this scheme is to progress the projects through single option development and detailed design stages. This involves working closely with the contractor and designer, and ensuring the project is fully integrated with other enhancements projects along the route.

PhD - Managing phosphorus in the UK water industry to address national resource security. - Identifying and evaluating the drivers for global phosphorus scarcity- Quantifying phosphorus flows throughout the UK food production and consumption system. - Assessing the compatibility of phosphorus recovery technologies with existing wastewater infrastructure.- Developing a sustainable phosphorus management strategy for the UK water industry.This research resulted in the publication of two papers in peer-reviewed journals which have been cited over 100 times, including within the Houses of Parliament report on Phosphate Resources.

Whilst writing up my PhD thesis, I began working as a temporary Site Assistant at Jarratt Hall, one of the University’s halls of residence. I was promoted to Site Coordinator and responsible for managing a team of students to ensure all rooms were cleared, inspected and prepared on time for the new arrivals. During this time, I also initiated new measures to improve recycling activities at the halls, including improved signage with translations into Chinese, and optimised allocation of recycling bins. I presented recommendations to the University’s senior management team for implementation across all student villages.

In this role I was specifically drafted in to manage and deliver a research project that was running behind schedule. The project was to develop an online, introductory teaching module on Anaerobic Digestion for MSc students. The project required rapid assimilation of new knowledge and expert advice to be sought from external sources. Following my appointment the scheme that was initially behind programme was delivered on time and exceeded expectations.

Throughout my PhD I led and coordinated the Civil Engineering laboratory sessions over four years. I also planned, delivered and assessed an MSc module (Water and Environmental Management) over two years. This included proposing and supervising two MSc research projects, and coordinating site visits to water and wastewater treatment works.

I was sponsored by Balfour Beatty throughout my undergraduate degree course. I successfully completed three summer placements during this time. This initially involved assisting with setting out and monitoring tasks, before being assigned to personally manage a section of track renewal, and then working within the Quality Assurance teams to ensure that work was completed to specification and recorded appropriately. 2009 - Quality Assurance - East London Line Project 2008 - Site Engineer - Old Dably Test Track, Melton Mowbray. 2007 - Surveying - East London Line Project
