Seismic Data Processing EngineerSchlumberger Jun 2008 - Jul 2011Seismic data processing and analysis, which required managing the processing of data to improve the resolution of seismic images. The main goal of seismic data processing is to improve the signal to noise ratio by filtering random noise form the data, or by removing predictable noises such as when we record multiple reflections of the signal off an interface. Some of the noise reductions processes require domain transformations such as Fourier transforms, and transformations into tau-p space. As some of the data sets we worked with could be very large, a major part of my job was also to check all processes for quality. Some of the tasks required to check for quality included picking an appropriate subset of the data to view for error, examine velocity fields for anomalies, and in general make sure our work improved the quality of the image without removing important data.
