BIO STATEMENTJames Marshall has been a highly successful exhibiting artist, designer and art educator for the past 40 years. James’ education in the ceramic arts began with a pottery apprenticeship in Guatemala while living with the Quiche, a Mayan First Native tribe during his service in the Peace Corps. He received his MFA in 1979 from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor where he studied with John Stevenson and Rudolph Arnheim, author of “Art and Visual Perception”. His teaching experience includes the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, the Rochester Institute of Technology, Rochester, New York, Bloomsburg University, Bloomsburg, PA., and the University of Wyoming, Laramie, WY. For the past 15 years James has taught ceramics, drawing and 3D Design at Santa Fe Community College and currently is Program Head/Ceramics in School of Art and Design.James continues to develop his artistic direction with “The Liminal Object”, an in depth exploration fueled by the minimalist aesthetic, which investigates the potential for an ordinary object to move into other dimensions.
