Our vision is to assemble top experts in medical research and computer vision – many such internationally renowned leaders have already joined – and provide them with the resources and environment needed to tackle some of the most important challenges in medicine. I am responsible for the creation of state-of-the-art detection, diagnosis, prognosis, and prediction systems in the medical imaging domain − with emphasis toward digitized histology. More specifically, I oversee the entire product lifecycle, which consists of market analysis, data acquisition, research and development, productization under a quality management system, FDA submittal, study publication (for acceptance into clinical standards and reimbursement), and product deployment.I also actively participate in all aspects of scientific development. This includes 1) creating algorithms that extract and quantitate relevant image-based information from digitized histology specimens and 2) designing sophisticated statistical models that leverage this information − along with other relevant clinicopathologic features − to predict disease progression and response to therapy. IbRiS is developing an computer vision system that extracts and analyzes image-based features from digitized histological specimens in order to predict which women with estrogen receptor positive (ER+) breast cancer will benefit from adjuvant chemotherapy. In 2007, I became a post-doctoral fellow and later an assistant research professor in theDepartment of Biomedical Engineering at Rutgers University, working with Dr. Anant Madabhushi. My research focuses on the detection, diagnosis, prognosis, and theragnosis of diseases via the image-based analysis of digital histology images. This work yielded 12 journal papers, nine conference papers, four abstracts, an oral presentation award, and $75K in external funding.
