Customer assistants are the public face of Marks & Spencer, with direct and immediate customer facing contact. I was responsible for providing a high standard of customer service in dealing with customers directly myself. However, my main responsibilities were more logistics, enabling effective liaison between the shop floor and the warehouse in terms of ensuring merchandise supplies were available to customers, and pre and post store opening hours scheduling of shop floor supply, working with department managers, for routine, special events and specific retail project initiatives.

The Operations team work is carried out mainly behind the scenes, and is a mixture of routine and project related work. I didn’t have a lot of contact with customers, however I did help out with the ‘collect by car service’. It was a challenging working environment, especially at peak shopping times, or we had special projects to complete. This offered a great team environment and allowed me to develop my organisation skills. I was in involved in all aspects of routine delivery and warehouse work and assisted in projects.
