I am currently employed as an Assessments Administrator at the Leicester Medical School. I manage multiple exam day events from set up through to delivery for 5 years of medical students with around 300 students in each year group. I allocate staff, students and resources, alongside managing logistical and administrative systems to ensure a smooth, secure and high-quality assessment for our students.

I was employed as a Research Study Support Officer for the Hope Clinical Trials Facility, based at the Leicester Royal Infirmary. I read protocols and appropriate legislation alongside liaising with research nurses, doctors, and any applicable departments to assess whether we had the capacity and capability to set-up clinical trials for haematology and cancer patients at site. It was my responsibility to then gain research and innovation authorisation and implement the trial as quickly as possible. Alongside this I also dealt with any amendments pertaining to current trials conducted by the department.

I worked in collaboration with CRUK-TDL on a variety of projects such as:• Validation of novel immune-oncology targets.• Inhibition of novel immunometabolism targets.• In silico quantification of tissue fibrosis.To facilitate this research, I cultured cells to perform siRNA knockdown and generate cytoblocks as positive and negative controls. I utilised immunohistochemistry techniques to conduct antibody validation. Once an antibody has been validated, I developed multiplex immunofluorescence assays and performed staining across a variety of normal and cancer tissues including: breast, colon, heart, lung, pancreas, prostate, skin and thymus.After staining, I scanned and analysed the slides using multiple analysis platforms including inForm, QuPath and VisioPharm.I presented my research at monthly intervals to keep the team at Leicester Cancer Research Centre and CRUK-TDL updated on my current project. To aid in the understanding of the results I also created video tutorials explaining tissue specific histopathology in relation to the target of interest.

After finishing university, I was employed as an Applications Chemist for CPL Aromas at their Global R&D Centre. I conducted multiple projects simultaneously and ensured their completion in accordance to strict deadlines. Around this, I managed requests from our other sites for samples, fragrance bases, and/or raw materials. I prepared these and made sure they were sent within a 5-day turn-around time. I followed specific protocols to assess fragrance stability in an array of applications. Moreover, I set-up panels in pre-determined environmental conditions, invited participants and entered their results into research management systems. I was also responsible for the day-to-day running of the laboratory, ordering consumables and maintaining adequate levels of stock. Furthermore, I conducted health and safety audits and I was the fire warden for the R&D building.

I amalgamated a response from student feedback for the student-staff consultant committee. My enthusiasm in this role led to me being requested to chair these meetings on three out of a total 6 occasions. As an addition to this role I was also a Student Representative at the Programme Management Board.

My project focused on screening novel anti-trypanosomal 6-benzimidazol-1-ylbenzothiophenes against A2780 ovarian carcinoma cells as a secondary toxicity test of previously identified hit compounds. Techniques and skills: SNAr reactions, cyclisation reactions, thin layer and chromatography, fractionation, A2780 ovarian carcinoma cell culture, seeded cells in a 96-well format, applied drug dosing regimens, conducted MTT assays, maintained a laboratory book, calculated and applied appropriate laboratory calculations, wrote up materials and methods for publication. Based on these results I designed 3 potential analogues inspired by state-of-the-art research, which conformed to Lipinski’s rule of 5. Of the compounds designed from the study, the benzoxaborole derivate was the most pertinent as its low molecular weight and lipophilicity exhibit properties desired for crossing the Blood Brain Barrier.5000 word write up of the project, entitled: Cytotoxicity screen of hit novel antitrypanosomal 6-benzimidazol-1-ylbenzothiophenes received 76%.

Research project: Synthesis and Biological Evaluation of Novel Antiprotozoal Drug Scaffolds.I was the first student at De Montfort University to be awarded the Wellcome Trust Biomedical Vacation Scholarship during my second-year summer vacation. During the scholarship I synthesised 10 rationally designed analogues via SNAr and cyclisation reactions, and elucidated their structure using NMR spectroscopy.Techniques and skills: Setting up reactions under anhydrous conditions, recrystallization, keeping a laboratory book, laboratory calculations, writing up materials and methods for publication. Planning, carrying out, troubleshooting and writing up experiments independently as part of an international research group.The aim of the project was to build on a library of antitrypanosomal heterocyclic compounds including benzothiophenes which have demonstrated significant in vitro activity and no toxicity to human cell lines.

I mentored a first year student which primarily involved being supportive and empathetic towards their studies. In addition, the role required listening skills, giving advice and being available to contact.

I wrote a Trends-style journal article on the subject of GPCRs and their intracellular signalling role in cancer. The article summarised that the surge in solved crystallographic GPCR structures due to technological advances may improve GPCR targeting. This assignment received 76%.

I trained new Crew Members to perform a variety of cooking tasks in the kitchen and completed the associated paperwork, whilst always adhering to health and safety procedures. I developed my skills to work independently in the kitchen when short staffed proving my ability to work efficiently when under pressure.Liaised with Crew Members to perform tasks on shift.Achieved employee of the month twice during my two years of employment.Was requested to join the management team as a part-time shift manager around studying at university.

My role here involved serving customers promptly in a polite manner and ensuring stock was well maintained. In addition to this I was required to calculate price reductions, record stocks onto various computer systems, print advertising and shelf edge labels, scan weekly orders and complete gap-checks on stocks. I was also responsible for amending the handheld computer database to accommodate real stock levels from theoretical ordering stocks.This job is a good validation of the variety and versatility of my skills as I had to multitask whilst completing jobs which require quick mental arithmetic, greet customers providing good customer service and use different software packages for recording data into numerous databases.

This role was similar to that of my role at the Co-operative; however this was a nightshift, full-time job on a temporary contract. The fact I managed to work a full time job on nights and a part time job in the day proves my desire to achieve goals set by myself.

After finishing sixth form I was briefly employed by Truframe on a temporary, full-time basis. The role involved fitting astragal bars to double glazed windows and achieving targets set by management.

Whilst studying my GCSEs and A-levels I was employed by The Anne of Cleves on a part-time basis, averaging over twenty hours per week around full-time study. The role consisted of serving drinks to customers at the bar and taking orders whilst waitering in the restaurant. I left this employment to pursue my job offer at the Co-operative upon completion of my A-levels.

After sitting my AS-level examinations I was offered a position as a decorator over the summer vacation. I was employed here around my hours at The Anne of Cleves on a temporary full-time basis.

I was offered my first job by St John's Drive Convenience Store whilst I was still at school. The role entailed rotating stock, and serving customers at the till in a polite and friendly manner.I left this job at the end of my GCSEs to pursue my job offer at the Anne of Cleves.
