CurrentJames joined Normanton Chambers in June 2024 following the successful completion of his pupillage. In the practising period of his pupillage James gained experience in a wide range of civil cases for claimants and defendants as well as in family matters involving both public and private law.James’ areas of law include:• Personal Injury• Employment• Family (Finance and Children)• Clinical Negligence• PropertyPrior to commencing pupillage, having completed a PhD in Law, James gained valuable experience working as a county court advocate undertaking several hundred hearings including: small claims, infant settlements, mortgage repossessions and landlord and tenant cases. In addition, James worked as a legal assistant to Nicholas Isaac KC undertaking specialist property work, and taught law at Exeter, Plymouth and Bristol universities. He is also an accredited mediator.James was elected as Advocacy Officer for the Middle Temple Young Barristers’ Association and has served for ten years as Director and Trustee for Adventure Plus, a charity which focuses upon providing opportunities for disadvantaged children. He has also volunteered for Citizens Advice and the Free Representation Unit and been interviewed to provide legal opinion on BBC local radio.James is based in the South West and is happy to travel to build his practice. When he’s not in court or at his desk, James enjoys running, rugby and coastal path walking.
