In the late 1990's, SPS started with a few retailers and now have grown to work with virtually every retailer and currently have tens of thousands of suppliers in their customer base.I primarily work on SPS's web EDI product (WebForms), but have also worked on scheduling for a catalog, and an ETL for a BI service. I have worked on small teams, and led small teams, but normally work alone. Because of this, I handle everything from architecture, design, coding, debugging, and research to working with quality assurance, customer support, and product management. We use a process similar to iterative and agile.Early on I was responsible for production development and led a small team. Because I have a long-term focus, and don't want to get the same problem twice, I was able to eventually handle production without a team while handling new features.I have been a part of helping WebForms grow, re-architecteding with a new version, adding many major features, and handling 1,000 times more documents/month than when I started.

Software EngineerSps Commerce Apr 1999 - May 2000Right out of college my career at SPS Commerce started with a "baptism by fire". About a month after I started, my boss assigned me to a production problem that happened rarely and wasn't reproducible, then he left for a week to go to a conference. After five iterations of adding a state inspection servlet to production, I finally found the problem. The code cached the same DB row in multiple places, therefore the state could become stale. I then implemented a central caching scheme where code would always pull from the cache each time a row was needed, ensuring that there weren't multiple objects for each row. Soon after, I was put in charge of handling all production problems instead of doing new development for new customers. I wasn't sure if I would like that, but I dove in to see what I would encounter. I flourished and, a year later, I was promoted to a Senior Software Engineer.When I started, the company was named Saint Paul Software, and I worked in the Commerce division. Later, the other divisions were sold and the company was renamed to SPS Commerce.
