Providing clinical and strategic leadership of counselling and psychological services for students and postgraduate researchers.

Barca provide individual and group therapeutic support to children, young people and adults across a range of school and community settings in Leeds. Our services include creative and play based counselling for children, individual low/no cost counselling (weekly for up to six months) for adults in west Leeds, a systemic family psychotherapy service for pupils and families of Leeds Special Inclusive Learning Centres, anger management groups for men, and positive communication groups for adults experiencing social isolation. As service lead I am responsible for safeguarding, clinical governance, contract management, business planning and development, leadership and overall service delivery. At the heart of our work is a commitment to making therapeutic support, insight and empowerment available to a wider number of individuals, groups and communities. My personal interests lie at the interface of psychodynamic and sociological thinking, particularly in relation to issues of inequality and social justice.

Aspire is an employment and recovery charity that provides work placement and training support on a range of social enterprises to individuals overcoming complex barriers to employment including mental health difficulties, substance misuse, offending histories and homelessness . Duties and responsibilities:To develop and deliver a comprehensive fundraising strategy and generate diverse streams of charitable income: Trusts and Foundation, Major Donor, Corporate, Community and Event fundraising.

Carrying an active case load of 20 -30 clients, providing 360 degree support for trainees progressing into employment. Designing, implementing and reviewing all aspects of Aspire’s client services work from referral, interview and risk assessment paperwork to policy preparation; public speaking/ networking engagements; employee supervision; overseeing adherence to employment law standards including managing disciplinary hearings; brokering employment opportunities for trainees; collating outcomes; report writing.

The Gatehouse provides direct access drop-in support for homeless men and women in Oxford through evening and weekend cafes. Duties include: supporting volunteers, providing emotional, practical and material support to guests, signposting to appropriate services and agencies, diffusing conflict, respecting confidentiality and working within appropriate support boundaries.

OSARRC provides sensitive, non-directive and non-judgemental telephone based listening support to women and girls who have survived sexual abuse and violence.

The HIV Sexual Health Team deliver half day training sessions to single sex and mixed groups of young men and women age 13 – 19 in schools, colleges and special education settings across Edinburgh. The project aim is to inform, educate and empower young people to make healthier, more confident and respectful choices in their sexual behaviour. Duties include: establishing a relaxed environment for young people to freely discuss sex and relationships; providing factual, medical information about genital physiology, STI’s, HIV/AIDS and contraception; facilitating discussion of the expectations, pressures and reality of young people’s experiences of becoming and being sexually active.
