Antarctica

In this role I primarily worked in the Southern Ocean and Western Antarctic Peninsula, but also spent time in the Atlantic for a crossing, and guided in Southern Chile. I operated zodiacs for passenger shuttling, wildlife viewing, and kayak safety. I worked on land where I established trails, oversaw passenger safety and compliance with IAATO regulations, and provided educational talks. Onboard I was a lecturer on seabirds and hosted guided seabird viewing experiences on sea days. I also oversaw expedition team inventory distribution for equipment to both guides and passengers.

Pacific Rim National Park Reserve

Delivered and developed educational programs about the natural and cultural heritage of Pacific Rim National Park Reserve. Topics that I focused on include: Large carnivores and human-wildlife coexistence, Southern Resident Killer Whales, and intertidal biodiversity. I developed a guided walk about the ecology of birds found in the area. I also roved the National Park Reserve, providing educational information and upheld Park Reserve policies through educational communication.

Pacific Rim National Park Reserve

Reviewed and developed Indigenous Engagement policy for Resource Conservation activities and programs. Provided support on key administrative processes.

Pacifc Rim National Park Reserve

I worked in the Long Beach Unit, where I primarily provided visitor services on the beaches and at the campground. While working on the beaches, I provided coastal safety education to visitors and intervened in high risk situations. I also educated and enforced visitor behaviour to preserve the ecological integrity of the coastal habitat. In the campground I operated a reservation system. I also educated visitors and enforced best practices for human-wildlife coexistence. In addition to my field duties, I provided administrative assistance in the fall and winter.

Strengthened and developed public support for the Conservation Volunteers program. Engaged the public with storytelling and various forms of media including web stories, blogs, etc. Assisted in coordinating engagement projects in a national context. Communicated written environmental science topics in a creative and engaging way. Assisted in developing a portfolio of digital media assets.

Informed and educated customers on high-end outdoor sporting goods in a retail sales capacity. Provided excellent customer service. Organized and presented outdoor gear on the sales floor and in the stock room.

In this role I lead outdoor adventure tours throughout Western Canada, with a wide range of guests from various backgrounds and ages. My main responsibilities were organizing and leading the group to ensure a successful trip. However my role also involved entertaining guests, providing commentary about locations, handling customer service, responding to adverse situations, communicating with partners, training other guides, and helping develop tour programs in the background. It is a job that encourages continuous growth and the constant ability to adapt.
