I started as an author and quickly advanced into a leadership position as a lead developer of national and international seminars and workshops focused on literacy, mathematics, science, social studies, and classroom management. I later began working also as a project editor. I collaborated with a variety of writers, proofreaders, and illustrators to create supplemental educational resources. In just 12 years, I authored or co-wrote 30 educational books and a children's trade book. Sunnyside Unified School District is a diverse school district located in Pima County, Arizona. With more than 1,200 teacher faculty, and a student body of roughly 17,000 students, it provides K-12 education through 15+ schools.I began my teaching career when I was still in high school. I volunteered with special needs students. After my college graduation with a dual major in special education and elementary education, I began officially teaching in a high school setting. I became a fifth grade teacher when a position opened in an upper elementary school, and I eventually transferred to a first grade classroom where I taught for many years. I taught in general classrooms and as a developmental learning specialist. I was often asked to present workshops and trainings for teachers throughout the district and enjoyed participating in coaching and facilitation relationships.
