I am officially RETIRED! after looking into several career choices I've decided that retirement is the way to go! Since 2004 I have been working in the Coffee Business. Previous to coffee (1993 until 2004), I worked in Public Utilities testing and tasting water. I have trained as a sensory specialist since 2004 in the coffee world—spending time in the Netherlands at the Sara Lee/Douwe Egberts Liquid Coffee plant in Joure as well as training at our liquid coffee plant in the US. JM Smucker purchased the liquid coffee plant from Sara Lee in 2012.Some of the areas that I have experience are: Green coffee quality and approvals, product monitoring/releases, Liquid Coffee Academies (training our sales people in the cupping of coffee and how this helps with selling our brand), supporting the packaging department in Quality and materials, monitoring of fill weights, just to name a few areas. Our challenge as sensory specialists is to make sure that our products are consistent as possible by monitoring each batch of coffee as it moves from raw materials to finished product. We have to be mindful of the targets and the product definitions so that we do not disappoint the end user—our customers!
