I started with the Volusia Sheriff's Office in 2011; in the records department. After 2 years I applied for a position in the Latent Print Unit. I am proud to say I was offered the position and started in 2013. While working in the unit I have grown professionally. I am considered an expert witness and have been interviewed in many depositions. In 2016, I was offered a part-time position to process evidence. I became familiar with the different processing techniques and ensured the process was documented. I ensured the chain of custody was never broken. I sent reports to the submitting Deputy or Detective about my findings. One of the most exciting items I processed was a credit card skimmer. I recovered a fingerprint from the sticky side of the electrical tape that was used. I then did my latent print analysis, searched in AFIS and made the identification! The individual was charged in Tampa. The identification of the print assisted in the prosecution of the individual. In 2022, it was time to learn a new position, Evidence. The amount of knowledge and experience I am gaining from the Sheriff’s office makes me feel very fortunate.
