As a career specialist my focus was to provide support, advocacy, and guidance to disengaged youth with the goal of high school equivalency completion, job readiness preparation, and placement into a career pathway and/or postsecondary training.

Retention Specialist: As a Retention Specialist for the Trio program, I worked with first-generation, low-income students on matters such as academic advising, financial aid, major and career planning, and social skills. The students and I worked together to map out a plan for success and we work together to monitor and assess their learning.Academic Advisor: As an Academic Advisor, I worked with freshmen and undeclared sophomores in course selection, major planning, and career exploration. I was a leader of multiple committees that created materials for students, faculty, and staff to aid in the advising process.

Multiple assignments:1) Mountainside Middle School: I worked one-on-one with a student who, due to a Behavioral Intervention contract, was not allowed contact with other students and certain faculty. I taught this student English, Math, Social Studies, and Science. I worked closely with each department in the school to ensure this student was receiving the same education as traditional students.2) Mead High School: As a long term substitute teacher, I taught a senior English class titled Prep for College in which we incorporated college and career exploration with traditional English learning standards. I also taught a 9th grade English class with a basis on reading, writing, study skills, and discussion. I started substituting mid-quarter which required me to quickly plan out the day-to-day workings of the classroom, as well as the long term learning goals required by the school.
