As a propulsion design intern at Firefly Aerospace, I gained critical industry experience, covering a variety of engineering fields, such as finite element analysis, aerodynamics, thermodynamics, and structural design. I worked with a team of talented engineers to develop and optimize the Stage 1 Reaver engine for the Alpha launch vehicle, which aims to deliver small satellites to low Earth orbit. I applied my skills and knowledge in mechanical and aerospace engineering to contribute to the design, testing, and validation of the engine components and systems. I am now a full-time design engineer at Stellar Exploration assisting in the development of satellite propulsion systems, wearing every hat. Stellar does not currently employ technicians or machinists, so we see all of our projects through to the end, from design to build to test. I am also one of Stellar’s hot fire test conductors, contributing as the responsible engineer for various hot fire testing campaigns, ensuring we deliver “Hardware that works.”My passion for propulsion stems from my education at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, where I graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering and a concentration in propulsion. I was the leader of the phenolic research team, where I managed a team of five students to create better phenolic chamber throat inserts for our liquid rocket test cell, in order to improve the performance of our university’s flight vehicles. I was also the flight modeling and nosecone responsible engineer for my capstone team’s liquid flight vehicle, which set three world records for liquid rocket altitude: undergraduate, collegiate, and amateur. I am motivated by the challenge and innovation of rocket propulsion, and I aspire to pursue a career in this field.
