My education career began in the countryside of Japan, as an assistant language teacher. I immersed myself in local culture while fostering critical thinking and debate skills among high school students. Within my first year, the 3/11 earthquake in Tohoku Japan violently changed life all over the country. I watched many expats flee, but stuck it out myself hoping to be a difference maker in my local community and truly gave it everything I had for the next three years. Eventually my life moved to Tokyo, where I took on the role of leading the English language program at an all-girls junior and senior high school, developing an original curriculum amid constant resource constraints. Teaching JHS is tough, though extremely rewarding. This chapter honed my adaptability and laid the groundwork for my ensuing director role at Lexis Language Center, a school dedicated to assisting returnee and EFL students. Since 2022, I have been the Principal and CEO of Lexis, where our mission revolves around crafting an enriching, multicultural learning environment. As CEO I have increased brand awareness with differentiated marketing campaigns, increased attendance by 20%, enhanced curriculum, and overseen the digital transformation of the company. With nearly a 30 year history, the school has served three generations of language learners, and has been the launchpad for globetrotting families all over the world. At Lexis, we are dedicated to employing effective, experienced teachers with creative teaching methodologies that not only enhance English comprehension but also nurture a global perspective among our students. We see our customers as future leaders, preparing them to engage with diverse cultures whether they traverse borders or choose to remain in Japan​.
