Generation Electrical And Controls - Senior Engineer
Distribution Capacity Planner - Senior Engineer
Manager - Systems Testing And Commissioning
After some time as a Senior Engineer on the Systems Integration Testing and Commissioning team, I've taken on the role as Manager. This includes oversight of all team activities not only in our responsibilities with ongoing capital projects, but also ensuring we remain aligned with departmental and organizational goals as well as developing our team to meet the demands of a growing industry and region.
Senior Systems Engineer - Testing & Commissioning
As a member of the Systems Testing & Commissioning team, my primary role at Sound Transit is to shepherd the systems integration testing plan for various light rail extensions across the Puget Sound region. This testing process includes establishing the SIT Subcommittee, developing the testing plan, executing and reporting plan progress, and ultimately closure of the test phase, leading into pre-revenue and revenue service. As a senior member, I am able to perform these duties with minimal oversight and seek out resolutions to roadblocks in support of the overall project schedule.
Senior System Engineer
I have served as a system engineer for four units' main generators and auxiliary systems as well as switchyards, transmission system interconnects, isophase bus, medium voltage switchgear, battery systems, and emergency diesel generators. This position has given me opportunities to grow my experience in system management and project management as well as coordination across disciplines and departments. Aside from maintaining my own systems, I provide support and insight to other plant maintenance and operation activities. I have on numerous occasions advised plant operations and management on issues concerning economic reliability, personnel and equipment safety, as well as business culture practices. I was called upon to champion various major capital projects to not only improve overall plant performance and reliability, but also for project management and engineering for recovery from significant incidents. My time at this company has also afforded me ample opportunity to keep senior management informed of upcoming gaps and mitigation strategies to reduce economic losses. The safety focus of Southern Company has also trained me to keep safety at the forefront of all decisions made, both minor and critical. My business aspect challenges assumptions and common practices to reinforce best practices while reducing or outright eliminating those which do not add value.
Senior System Engineer
Working as a Systems Engineer at Plant Hatch, I served as the engineering subject matter expert for the main generators and all auxiliary systems. This effort was in support of two 924 MWe units and afforded me an abundance of exposure and opportunities to grow in the power generation sector. From control room training to oversight of administrative processes, my time at Southern Nuclear - Plant Hatch was the genesis of my career in the power industry. Alongside myriad professionals, I developed a skill set for not only engineering problem solving and analysis, but also for supporting ad-hoc field support during crucial maintenance activities. At Plant Hatch, I also developed an understanding of causal analysis, human performance factors, and a deep passion for industrial (especially electrical) safety.I am proud to say I was an integral team member of the engineering department at Plant Hatch.
Electronics Engineer
During my tenure at Robins AFB, I performed various functions within the 578th Software Maintenance Squadron. Among these projects, I served as a software Independent Validation and Verification (IV&V) engineer where I worked with in-house software developers to close gaps to meet customer requirements within software maintenance cycles. This position afforded me ample opportunity to become proficient with LabView through experience and formal training. Serving as a software IV&V engineer, I also performed troubleshooting and upkeep of electrical test bench equipment to ensure performance and reliability. Furthermore, I was granted excellent opportunities to mentor other engineers within the flight on organically developed configuration control and best practices to facilitate our goals of turning over our finished product on time and on cost.Other positions I held included leading an independent project where a power distribution unit (PDU) required an upgrade redesign to support increased load in C-5 software test benches. Through this project, I gained extensive knowledge of Solidworks 2010 via hands-on experience and training classes. As a secondary job function, I was tasked with the oversight and management of the flight-level tool control accountability program. This job function allowed me to establish guidelines and procedures which regulated all flight members' access and use of tools in line with the requirements of the U.S. Air Force Material Command's procedural requirements for accountability and use of tools.Software training received: Labview, Multisim, Ultiboard, Solidworks 2010
