ProVeg International is a food awareness organisation with the mission to reduce the global consumption of animals by 50% by 2040, and is active in 9 regions.• I mentor and provide support to Country Directors in Poland, the Netherlands, the UK, Czechia, Spain, Germany, South Africa, China, and the US, the Grant Director, and the Director of Communications • I oversee international operations and compliance; set the strategy jointly with the President, and support governance of all entities except ProVeg Germany. I lead the communications and advocacy department and support fundraising, research, impact and other departments.• I support expansion to other countries, and together with the President, oversee the ($1m) global ProVeg Grants program. • Starting in Oct 2019, I transformed the Communications and advocacy department into a highly effective team. Media coverage increased over tenfold compared to 2018 (despite coronavirus-dominated news), and an Oct 2020 policy campaign led to over 200 pieces of coverage, including NYT, BBC, top-ten most read Guardian articles. Website and social media metrics have also been boosted significantly. In May 2021, we overturned EU plans to censor plant-based dairy through an innovative advocacy campaign. I co-founded the Plant-based Food Alliance UK in 2021 and in Feb 2022, I became Co-Chair of the EAPF. • ProVeg (170+ staff) has professionalised in the past 3 years, gaining multiple awards (including from the UN), and we celebrated achievements in the food industry and policy change• I developed an organisational logical model and improved the annual planning process resulting in a more focused and joined-up organisation• I initiated significant organisational development improvements including but not limited to: HR policies and processes, reporting and evaluation, work culture, international coordination and integration, and governance• I raised funds for our work in Poland, South Africa, Spain and China

I supported the development of strategic EU policy plans, and I provided mentoring to the EVU policy team.

Consultancy for the animal advocacy and vegan movement, including developing the establishment of ProVeg UK (which launched in April 2017), and curriculum development for a Master's degree in Animal Welfare.

I developed a 20 credit module for a new international online MSc in Animal Welfare.Fixed-term contract

I carried out systematic reviews of published toxicological papers to assess the implementation of reduction and replacement of animals and refinement of procedures. Findings were presented at two international symposia.

I set exam questions and model answers, and assessed exams and assignments for the Animal Welfare module and short course within the Distance Learning MSc in ‘Livestock Health & Production’. (Part-time)

I coordinated the development of curricula to enhance existing foundation degrees in the South West region facilitating progression into the veterinary programme at Bristol. (Fixed-term contract)

In 2006 I founded the UK political Animal Welfare Party (formerly ‘Animals Count’), modelled on the successful Dutch Party for the Animals for which I was a candidate in European Parliament elections in 2004 and General Elections in 2010. I led Animals Count for four years, and coordinated three UK election campaigns:- 2008 London Assembly elections- 2009 European Parliament elections - 2010 General ElectionsSupported by volunteers I raised thousands of pounds for elections. I developed governance structures; managed the accounts; drafted detailed animal welfare and other manifesto policies; engaged celebrities, including Twiggy, Brian May and Prof. Peter Singer; developed two websites, conducted TV and radio media interviews; coordinated public campaigns; worked with dozens of animal charities; responded to UK and EU consultations; and met with MPs and MEPs of other political parties. In October 2010 I stepped down as Party Leader, and handed over responsibilities to Vanessa Hudson. I am no longer actively involved with either the UK or the Dutch Party for the Animals. However, in my current role, I will work with politicians from across the political spectrum.

I provided programme advice on equine welfare projects in Afghanistan, India and Pakistan including supporting the development of project plans, management & policy issues, baseline studies and monitoring and evaluation methods.I provided technical research advice to teams in India and Pakistan that informed programme interventions addressing welfare problems in working equines. I supported the development of a range of research methods and techniques.(Maternity cover)

Through working with Ministries of Education and Environment, WAP (formerly WSPA) achieved inclusion of animal welfare education in primary schools in 6 developing countries, in further education in Kenya, and in veterinary education in over 40 countries, reaching thousands of lecturers and students worldwide.WAP’s education programmes achieved recognition from UNESCO, major veterinary organisations, the OIE and intergovernmental organisations.I managed 11 staff members in 5 WAP offices (UK, Central America, South America, Brazil, Africa and Asia), and I managed substantial budgets for 17 projects worldwide.I developed an education website and designed, revised and updated WAP education resources, including the highly successful Concepts in Animal Welfare CD ROM for veterinary students and lecturers. I presented at dozens of international conferences and organised ‘train the trainer’ workshops, reaching hundreds of lecturers worldwide.

I published scientific review papers about animal use and alternatives within biomedical research, testing and education, which were part of the EU FP5 project ‘Anim.AL.SEE’.(Fixed-term contract)

The European Resource Centre for Alternatives to animal use in higher education was established to provide university and college lecturers with information about, and a chance to get familiar with, the use of ethical and effective alternatives in education.I procured alternative models to animal use in higher education, reviewed their educational value, and provided product information on a website (no longer online). I represented the project at conferences, reaching hundreds of lecturers worldwide. I established an EU network of academics involved in developing, using and reviewing alternatives. I supported lecturers and students in their search for alternatives.(Fixed-term contract)

I developed a significant teaching project “Animal welfare at city farms” for third year Animal Care students.I taught animal related subjects at FE level, and contributed to curricular developments.

I established a new 3- and 4 year degree in ‘Animal Care and Management’ at FE level, contributed to curricular design and managed the department.I taught animal related and communication subjects. I organised, coordinated and supervised work-based learning for 60 students and mentored students.
