Former Legal Advocate at Leadership Counsel for Justice & Accountability; working as an Equal Justice Works (EJW) Fellow sponsored by Weil, Gotshal, & Manges, LLP from 2023–2024. At Leadership Counsel, I spent my time advancing my EJW project around using California's Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing Law (AFFH) (AB-686, Cal. 2018) to advance safe, affordable, healthy, and sustainable communities alongside and on behalf of rural low-income communities of color in the San Joaquin Valley. Through legal technical support to local cities and counties, enforcement litigation against local agencies violating their AFFH duties, and conducting policy advocacy and training around continued robust enforcement around AFFH, I worked alongside community residents and in partnership with equity organizations across the state to advance the rights of low-income residents and communities of color who have been historically, systemically, and continually subjected to racist land use policies, displacement, unhealthy environments, exclusive decisionmaking processes, and housing-cost burdens.
