I am the technical lead for SBGrid, a member-supported global research computing consortium for Structural Biology based at Harvard Medical School (HMS). We support the research computing needs of the structural biology community in 450+ member laboratories at 100+ academic centers in 20+ countries. I am a structural biologist by training, primarily in crystallography, NMR, and drug discovery. But I've always been the resident computer geek in every lab I worked in, which is saying something in computational biophysics. Since 2014, I've worked at the interface of structural biology and research computing, leading software engineering and dev/ops teams to design, deploy, and maintain infrastructure for SBGrid and for the Harvard Medical School Cryo-EM facility. We curate, compile, and distribute scientific software for structural biology researchers world-wide. We also build data repositories, computing environments and tools to make scientific software easier to install and use. Our support ranges from macbooks to Linux HPC clusters to the cloud. I am also a lecturer in the Department of Biological Chemistry and Molecular Pharmacology (BCMP) at HMS. I typically workshop on structural biology software and molecular modeling for grad and medical students.
