Hello!My name is Jason Prather and I am currently a senior at the College of Wooster. However, I hail from Louisville, Kentucky. I am the son of two loving parents who endowed me with a blue-collar, hardworking mentality and a belief that there is good in everyone. I am currently a History and Adolescent/Young Adult Education Major with the intention of teaching 7-12 grade Social Studies. I have earned a 3.89 GPA at the college and repeated appearances on the Dean's List. I also received the College's highest scholarship, the Dean's Scholarship. Lastly, I have been invited to join (and will) Phi Alpha Theta. While at the College I have had numerous opportunities to grow, learn, and exhibit my abilities. Wooster is one of America's premier colleges for undergraduate research and students must complete a senior capstone project to graduate. My project was a 122 page exploration of state Holocaust education mandates in the United States. This project allowed me to work alongside experts in the field and design, research, and defend my own thesis. It challenged me to imagine my own research plan, make valuable connections across numerous fields, and further develop my writing skills. Lastly, I was able to use it as a vehicle to better understand education policy in the United States, the impact of teacher training, and the complexities of curriculum development. The College also required numerous field opportunities for my education degree. I have spent three semesters working in high schools in and around Wooster, leading individual, small group, and entire class instruction. My final field experience will include nearly 12 weeks of all-day, entire class instruction. These experiences have allowed me to develop my own personal classroom management style, assessment strategies, and confidence in the classroom.Lastly, I had the privilege of playing soccer for the Varsity Men's Soccer team at Wooster. I was a captain on the team my senior year and gained valuable interpersonal skills, management abilities, and a hardworking grit that I carry into everything I do. Outside of college, I have extensive work experience. I have been a material handler at Ergonomic Solutions since 2019, where I have worked with clients and coworkers to coordinate the shipping and storage of goods. In 2021, I also worked as an intern at St. James Reformed and Evangelical Church, organizing a community outreach program in an underserved area. Lastly, from 2016-2018 I worked as a camp counselor and "Youth Sports Boss" at the Southwest YMCA in Louisville.
