Senior Design Engineer
Career Highlights: • Team member of five different production groups that successfully sent a printer to market, including Lexmark’s first line of high, mid and low range color laser printers. All programs included complex modeling, completing drawings, managing schedules and cost, working with tooling and manufacturing vendors, overseas travel and quality testing • Co-developed new sealing technology for toner cartridges which changed the way the company manufactures the product. These modifications reduced leak failures in the field to less than a tenth of a percent • Co-developed a new first in first out (FIFO) toner delivery system that extends the life of a toner cartridge and improves print quality. The design required innovative research to use augers in way that had never been tried before, both plastic and metal • Design lead on a grounds up program in Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology and co-lead 4-5 graduate students focusing on research and development to further advance the project with the University of Kentucky • Tasked with eliminating the number one customer complaint in high end mono printer, the problem was discovered leading to new standards being set in how we measures skew and the pass/fail limits set in manufacturing. Customer complaints have all but been eliminated • Invited to sit on a Pugh concept selection committee for a super finisher. My concept for how the device would operate mechanically was selected and is now in production • Managed the Bill of Material and manufacturing for sections of multiple programs, which included working with product engineers to get parts ordered, cost data, engineering changes to tools completed and part inspections reported. Also coordinated all development builds with our manufacturer in China • I cooperatively hold 10 U.S. Patents and have several others pending
Lead Design Engineer
The 5 months that I worked at AMF Bakery Systems was a great learning experience. I was responsible for the concept to production of a bun separator for McDonalds bun production. When running hamburger buns, two layers of buns could be stacked in a crate versus one layer of Big Mac buns. I successfully completed this project with the help of other members of the team before I left.I was responsible for designing all solids for the project in IDEAS Master Series as well as the 2D prints for the solids. I worked with a fabricator on the shop floor to build the machinery. I also worked with vendors who supplied the motors, belts and other hardware required.Although my time at AMF Bakery Systems was short, I learned a lot about project management and the ins and outs of this industry.
Aypt (Academic Year Part-Time) Coop Engineer
While in college, I enrolled in the Coop program at the University of Kentucky. I interviewed and was accepted to a position at Lexmark. I was a member of the CAD/CAM support team. My primary role was to learn how to use CATIA modeling program to produce wire frames for electronic transfer of part data to tooling vendors. I worked with a variety of engineers in a number of different areas. Speed and accuracy were key in this job.During this nearly three year period, I was attending school while working. I gained great experience and learned valuable skills from some great mentors that I worked with on a daily basis. I also had the opportunity to be a part of some specialty groups doing design work for companies like Black and Decker.
