Current>> I identify conditions under which balance deteriorates and the sources of that deterioration. From this I develop diagnostic protocols to monitor balance performance over the human life cycle, and therapeutic protocols to address deficits as they arise, in order to prevent injurious and threatening falls and the substantial costs that accompany them. >> I oversee all aspects of the HMPL’s operation and performance, including the initial setup of the lab’s equipment, specification of new equipment purchases, and day-to-day supervision of lab personnel.>> Specifically, I developed experimental protocols and analytical methodologies for all data collected, applied for and obtained IRB approval for these protocols, and developed test subject recruitment, selection, and screening criteria. I executed experimental protocols, processed and analyzed all resulting data, and interpreted the results, and developed and submitted manuscripts for publication of results. >> To maintain my role, I also successfully obtained funding for and led in the development and implementation of six research studies:>> Maintaining Balance While Reaching in Three Dimensional Space: 2010 – 2017, Total Award Amount: $850,000. >> Modeling Differences in Neuromotor Balance Control in Response to Reactive versus Voluntary Balance Training: 2012 – 2015, Total Award Amount: $114,000.>> A Balanced Reach Training Platform to Address Balance Disorders in Older Veterans: 2021 – Present, Total Award Amount: $1.2M.>> An Engineering-Based Balance Assessment and Training Platform: 2021 – Present, Total Award Amount: $200,000.>> Balance Reach Training to Address Balance Disorders in Older People with Stroke: 2021 – Present, Total Award Amount: $312,500.>> Acquisition of a Sensorimotor Dynamic Response Measurement System: 2024, Total Award Amount: $532,773.
