As a Field Superintendent I was responsible for managing several crews, coordinating them to keep the construction schedule within time and budget. I implemented effective scheduling and monitored progress as well as carrying out disciplinary measures where appropriate.My experience with construction plans and drawings meant that I was able to oversee and assess progress and ensure that as-built plans were correctly produced by trade contractors throughout construction.I was accountable for control of labour, materials and equipment expense, adhering to budget restraints and finding ways to save money without affecting safety or quality.

For this project I was Superintendent responsible for coordination and allocating work crews to ensure tasks were carried out on time and in an effective manner. I monitored site wide compliance with company and governmental policies and procedures, ensuring safety. I made everyday decisions regarding disciplinary measures and supported those handed down by senior management.My responsibilities included interpreting plans and drawings and communicating the necessary actions to crews and foreman in a clear and concise manner, assigning tasks required to meet project milestones. I reviewed and monitored health and safety procedure and was tasked with completing hazard and risk assessments and making sure that all company and regulatory procedures and policies were followed.I learned to recognize when there were issues between teams and crew members and addressed these using negotiation skills to resolve them in a way satisfactory to all parties.My experience in this industry enabled me to identify requirements and improvements to look-ahead plans and schedules and to refer them to the appropriate person for resolution. A thorough knowledge of planning and scheduling assisted me in collaborating with the construction management team to implement efficient work procedures.

As General Foreman I effectively communicated tasks to other foremen and crews, assigning them to ensure efficient work processes and enabling milestones to be met.I actively participated in safety tool-box meetings to review any problems and ensure a safe working culture was upheld and liaising with crew members and colleagues on policy and procedure. I was responsible for the completion of initial safety and hazard assessments, Field Level Risk Assessments (FLRAs).Good communication abilities meant that I was able to recognize and resolve any issues or conflicts arising within crews and maintain a happy and productive workplace. I was able to collaborate with the Construction Management Team and leverage experience of planning and scheduling to suggest improvements and alterations to work plans.

Brunway Project, New Brunswick

I coordinated with crews on various highway projects in an efficient and productive manner while ensuring compliance with company policy and procedure. I conducted and attended daily toolbox meetings to plan work for the day. These also addressed safety and hazard issues, for which I had to complete assessments according to regulations.I was responsible for making day-to-day discipline decisions and supporting and enforcing those made by management. My duties also included ensuring that milestones were met through close collaboration with management teams.

Brunway Project, New Brunswick

I was responsible for the safe daily operation of various items of heavy equipment for highway construction and as a Finish Dozer Hand carried out duties with D3, D5 and D6 dozers, grading, sloping and spreading topsoil. I performed Bulk Operator jobs using D8, D9 and D10 dozers, which included grubbing, bulking cuts and fills, and handling and spreading materials from trucks. I was also tasked with the operation of various sizes of bulk excavators.I interpreted and reviewed drawings and grade stakes to ensure jobs were carried out as per specifications.
