I am the Provost and Dean of the Faculty at Warren Wilson College. Prior to my position at Warren Wilson, I served as the Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs and Professor of Education at Earlham College where my work focused on strategic academic and co-curricular initiatives and integration. I am also a fellow with the American Council on Education (ACE), class of 2019-20. My academic scholarship and writing centers on the intersections of education, culture, and environment. I am the author of three books, Beyond Learning by Doing (2011), and Experiential Education in the College Context (2016), and Risky Teaching (2021), all published by Routledge Press. I give talks, workshops, and contribute to external reviews on engaged pedagogy and experiential learning at schools, colleges, and universities. I currently serve on the Editorial Board for the International Journal of Outdoor and Environmental Education and the Journal of Experiential Education. I received my B.A. in Anthropology from Lawrence University, an M.Ed. from the University of Virginia, and a Ph.D. in Education from Miami University.
