I am an agile, battle-tested, award-winning creative leader with over 20 years experience as a magazine-maker and cross-platform storyteller, with added experience in media relations and crisis management thanks to my time at GE Aviation.I was schooled in the art of developing a magazine’s voice at Esquire; remodeled the front-of-the-book at Spin; covered the Manhattan media beat and absorbed Peter Kaplan’s mantra “edit your enthusiasms” at The New York Observer; and took what I learned out to Santa Fe to assign and edit long-form stories at Outside. I served as the creative leader of a small, dedicated staff of editors, writers, and designers at Cincinnati Magazine, producing a smart and engaging mix of visually sophisticated, high-impact content in print and digital, all while growing readership, building the brand, and preaching the gospel of sharp, responsible magazine journalism to anyone within earshot. When it came time to ease out of magazine journalism, I successfully navigated a career transition, joining the crack media relations team at GE Aviation, where I used my storytelling and editing skills to polish and fine-tune the company blog, built relationships with trade media, and got a crash course in crisis management.Storytelling as a medium has evolved greatly since I picked up the phone at Smart Magazine in 1990 and got Ted Williams to talk. It exists now in a constant state of reinvention. But stories are what motivate me and the craft remains constant. Whether I’m making a magazine, editing a piece, generating ideas, launching a website, writing, or simply communicating with readers and users, it’s at the heart of what I do.Distinctions:• Pulitzer Prize Judge in Criticism, 2017 and 2018• National Magazine Awards Judge, American Society of Magazine Editors, 2005-2017• 17 City and Regional Magazine Association Awards (2005-2017), including General Excellence (2010)• 2007 ASME National Magazine Award nomination (Profile Writing, Cincinnati Magazine, Kathy Y.
