Jay Johnson is the Chief Technology Officer at DER Security Corp, a startup company focused on Distributed Energy Resource (DER) communications, power operations, and security. Jay's team is building cybersecurity protection, detection, and response technologies for EV chargers, renewable energy installations, and energy storage systems. Previously, Jay was a Distinguished Member of Technical Staff at Sandia National Laboratories where he led DOE research projects totaling $25M in the areas of power system control, optimization, and security. Jay has authored more than 150 academic papers, has eight issued patents, and was interviewed for Wired, Forbes, NPR, and several other media outlets on his EV charger cybersecurity research. Jay received a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Missouri-Rolla in 2006 and a M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 2009.
