As a graduate research assistant, I am currently training under the guidance of Dr. Adam Bachstetter, a renowned expert in neuroinflammation, Alzheimer's Disease and traumatic brain injury. My project focuses on investigating how neuronal interleukin-1 receptor-1 signaling contributes to the pathophysiology of mild traumatic brain injury, but more specifically contributes to neuroinflammation.In Dr. Bachstetter's laboratory, I am developing advanced skills in neurobiology research, including molecular biology techniques, histology, immunohistochemistry, and electrophysiological techniques such as field potential recordings. I am collaborating with other members of the lab to design and execute experiments, and we regularly share our findings at national conferences and in leading scientific journals. This project has significant implications for the development of novel therapeutics aimed at preventing or mitigating the adverse effects of brain injury, and I am excited to contribute to the growing understanding of neuroinflammation's role in traumatic brain injury.

After the conclusion of my athletic career as the long snapper for the University of Cincinnati Bearcats football team, I joined Dr. Joe Clark's lab in the Department of Neurology & Rehabilitative Medicine as well as the Department of Athletics. Training in neurodiagnostics and neurorehabilitation has provided me with the unique experiences of working directly with traumatic brain injury patients, both athletes and non-athletes. I routinely perform neurological examinations, and develop both management and rehabilitation strategies to help improve patients' quality of lives. Furthermore, having developed a subject matter expertise in neurovisual training (NVT) protocols and methodologies, I actively engage in and design performance enhancement training programs for the University of Cincinnati division-1 athletes. These peer-reviewed published methods have shown an 80% reduction in concussions, 50% decreased recovery times post-traumatic brain injury, and additional performance improvement across many sports at UC. Additionally, I use this developing expertise in NVT, neurodiagnositcs, and neurorehabilitation to investigate deep research questions focused on neurodegenerative diseases such as Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE), validation of NVT methodologies, and exploring the intricacies of the human brain!
