This includes oversight for all pre-award and post-award activities, negotiation, research budgeting/forecasting, and assuring compliance with external regulations and VAI policy.Key responsibilities:- Leading a team of sponsored research analysts and administrators, including managing personnel and staff development, overseeing workloads, developing training programs to ensure programmatic compliance, and developing operational policy for the Office of Sponsored Research.- Leading the administrative hub for the externally sponsored research enterprise of the institution, including managing the negotiation, execution, and administration of all research grant and contract terms and conditions.- Facilitating the submission and administration of sub-award proposals and agreements.- Communicating and integrating compliance activities (IRB, IACUC, export control, clinical trial, data sharing requirements) with the Office of Sponsored Research.- Ensuring compliance with all applicable federal, state, sponsoring agency, and Institute policies and regulations, audit requirements, and OMB Uniform Guidance.

As the Assistant Director I managed the department’s sponsored research portfolio. The ECE portfolio was ~$30M across ~190 project accounts, and included both contracts and grants from federal and non-federal sponsors. My team included 7 FTEs as well as 1 part-time undergrad student assistant. In this role I supported business development activities (funding searches, facilitating NDA execution, advising, budget development, proposal submission), program execution (interpretation of policies and award terms, program management, monthly financial analysis, reconciliation, forecasting and reporting), and post-award compliance and closeout (audit response, data management and storage). I also had primary oversight of ECE's business office, which handled ~3,700 purchase requests and other administrative support actions per year.

I provided leadership and oversight for the Operating Units subcontracting portfolio totaling $875M across 142 suppliers and several DoD contracts, and led a team of 3 Subcontract Administrators. In this capacity I had the unique experience of providing supply chain subject matter expertise to the Operating Unit Director while supporting the corporate goals and mission, but to also function as an advocate for our subcontractors and maintain those critical relationships.

In particular, I was the lead Contracts POC on a successful competitive bid that secured a new customer for Northrop Grumman.
