The Institute is home to more than 300 scientists and support staff that work in on-site laboratories and in collaborative partnerships that span the globe with a commitment to improving the health and enhancing the lives of current and future generations.As the Director of Sponsored Research, I serve as the focal point for the organization’s portfolio of sponsored programs with responsibility for establishing effective partnerships and linkages between VAI, government funding agencies, and private grant making entities. This includes oversight for all pre-award and post-award activities, negotiation, research budgeting/forecasting, and assuring compliance with external regulations and VAI policy.Key responsibilities:- Leading a team of sponsored research analysts and administrators, including managing personnel and staff development, overseeing workloads, developing training programs to ensure programmatic compliance, and developing operational policy for the Office of Sponsored Research.- Leading the administrative hub for the externally sponsored research enterprise of the institution, including managing the negotiation, execution, and administration of all research grant and contract terms and conditions.- Facilitating the submission and administration of sub-award proposals and agreements.- Communicating and integrating compliance activities (IRB, IACUC, export control, clinical trial, data sharing requirements) with the Office of Sponsored Research.- Ensuring compliance with all applicable federal, state, sponsoring agency, and Institute policies and regulations, audit requirements, and OMB Uniform Guidance.
