Jeff Schmidt is currently a Coordinator for District Improvement & Supports for the San Mateo County Office of Education supporting the 23 schools districts and COE schools on the Bay Area Peninsula. Jeff is the former Career Technical Education Coordinator (CTE), and a member of the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics) Team at the Santa Clara County Office of Education in Silicon Valley California. Mr. Schmidt began his educational career teaching K-12 music in WA State. After a successful career in the entertainment industry (keyboard player and drummer for the band, ‘The English Beat’ and ‘General Public’), Mr. Schmidt became a high school Career Technical Education (CTE) instructor in the Arts, Media and Entertainment industry sector in San Jose, CA. Eventually, Jeff moved into administration as the Assistant Principal and CTE Coordinator at the Silicon Valley Career Technical Education center in San Jose, CA. (SVCTE). Jeff Schmidt has Liberal Arts degree from Whitworth University, and a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from California State University.Recently, Mr. Schmidt served as the Director of the FabLab at the top performing Bullis Charter School in Los Altos, California, focusing on Project-Based Learning, Design-Thinking, robotics, tinkering, integrated STEAM and computer science into the program. Jeff is a proponent for equity, technology integration and creativity in the classroom, and believes that college and career readiness is fundamental to 21st Century teaching and learning. Mr. Schmidt is a recipient of the CTE Teacher of the Year award (2013) and the Association of California School Administrators (ACSA) CTE Administrator of the Year award (2016), and is currently serving as Past-President of the California Association for Career Technical Education (CACTE). As a featured speaker and keynote speaker all over America and China, Mr. Schmidt specializes in training teachers and administrators in problem-based learning, STEAM integration, technology integration, and Project-Based Learning. Mr. Schmidt was the 2019-2020 Academic Director for Elite K-12 Schools, China Group, working in Beijing as the acting International Principal at the HD Bilingual School in Beijing.
