Onvia provides the intelligence companies need to win more government business. Every year over 70,000 government agencies publish bids or RFPs. Government procurements are highly unstructured data, and it is the responsibility of the Ontology Analyst to rationalize the data into controlled vocabularies and drive an intuitive search experience, empowering clients to search our database to find actionable information. In this role I:Develop, implement and maintain a controlled vocabulary of 4,000 product and service tags and more 70,000 synonym terms which drives daily auto classification of on average 6,000 unique government procurements. Work directly with clients to understand their user experience, workflows and needs. Practice agile project management establishing product roadmaps and release plans, empowering a cross-functional team to development and implement client focused ontology and search improvements. Establish best search practices, advise and train sales and client support staff on how to best utilize Onvia’s platform to drive a better client search experience.Specific projects delivered:Designed and tested an ontology/taxonomy of 4,000 tags automating a process that was previously entirely carried out via manual processes, resulting in significant reduction in overhead costs and workflow bottlenecks.Advocated for, defined and implemented a process for migrating 100,000 client searches onto Onvia’s tag based search. Managed a team of 12 employees who were tasked with carrying out the process. Built a controlled vocabulary, metadata and classification schema which rationalizes government contact titles, resulting in a simplified, cost reducing process for fulfilling client contact list requests.

Performed daily collection of federal, municipal and state procurement from agency websites. Fielded procurement text into refined data points and applied categories for publication on Onvia's search platform.
