About Jeff Simms

I started my career as a newspaper reporter, working for two different papers for a total of about six years. From there I entered the nonprofit field to hone my writing and communication skills while working for causes I believed in. This chapter lasted more than a decade, first in Washington DC and then in New York City. I am currently reporting on all things Beacon, NY for the Highlands Current newspaper, while working on other freelance writing and editing assignments and several long-term writing projects. In addition, I am spending valuable time with my family, running and biking from one end of New York State to the other, and appreciating the small but important things in life. This is what my resume says about me:Highly skilled writer and editor with over 15 years of experience writing news and feature stories, pitching story ideas to the news media, developing content for marketing pieces and websites, authoring press releases, editing copy and serving as information resource to community members and media contacts. My writing and journalistic instincts can make your content better. Strengths include generating ideas, devising strategies to reach audiences, monitoring trends and translating complex information into easily understood communication pieces. Well versed in AP and Chicago style manuals.
