I was the original chairman of the Education Committee for Box Elder County to obtain a permanent home for Utah State University and Bridgerland Applied Technology College. We succeeded by organizing a county redevelopment agency which purchased a vacant 100,000 + square foot shopping center (then vacant) and remodeling it to meet the needs of both institutions. Then through prudent fiscal management we purchased and additional 11 acres to add to the 10 acres for growth. USU's Regional Campus has grown from 200 students to over 1000 students. BATC's growth as also been impressive. For my work I received USU's Presidential Award "County Aggie" 1996. Later for my support and expansion of the role of USU Extension I was awarded the 2006 "Friend of Extension" award.

Past Chairman of the Utah Rural Development Council, created during the Clinton Administration to link Federal Agencies to State Agencies.Examples: Bureau of Land Management, National Forest Service, National Parks Service, Bureau of Indian Affairs, Small Business Administration etc on the Federal Level. Departments of Agriculture, Natural Resources, Economic Development to name a few on the state level. This funding ran out and the board continued to fulfill Senate Bill 50 in 2004.

I co-chaired this board for the state with the Governor or his Lt. Governor. This board mandate was to advise the Governor and Legislature on Economic Development and Planning issues for the 24 rural Utah Counties. We dealt with education, business recruitment, retention, entrepreneurship, utility infrastructure, health care reform, agribusiness, energy development, telecommunications and tourism to name a few.

Rotary is a world wide service organization. It has local clubs, districts and the national association. As President I presided over one yeear of the clubs activities, officers and directors. Prior to becoming the President I was the vice president, treasurer, and a member of the board of directors.

Appointed board member in 1993 by Governor Michael Leavitt. Served for a total of 12 years (3 terms) overseeing the 40+ Utah State Parks. I chaired the master plan for the division of parks and recreation for the state entitled "Frontiers 2000" for which I was awarded the "Distinguished Service Award" by the National Association of Parks and Recreation Planners. Later I was award the "Presidents Award" by the National Association of Parks Presidents. We accomplished 132 million in capital improvements to the state park system during my 12 years including the addition of Sand Hollow State Park in Washington County.

Organized a county wide effort to get high speed (broadband) internet into our county. Outgrowth was several communities joined the UTOPIA. Brigham City is now fully wired with fiber optics to every home and business that has subscribed.
