I am an ML engineer working to change the world. This year I am growing my end-to-end data science toolkit by learning Python and taking a deep dive into machine learning algorithms and MLops in the Machine Learning Engineering and AI Bootcamp by Springboard. For my capstone project, I am automating quality assurance in scientific publishing by building an NLP system to detect quotation errors in texts.My 15+ years developing the CHNOSZ R package - used for thermodynamic calculations and visualization - prove my ability to build and maintain complex software systems. In another project, I'm breaking ground in interdisciplinary science by using ML-based predictions of environmental variables from genomic data. This puts microbial communities into a quantitative parameter space familiar to chemists and geoscientists. With a PhD in Earth science and interests in computing and genomics, I love doing what some might say isn't possible. I learn new skills rapidly and autonomously, such as becoming proficient in Linux in order to access more computing resources. I have managed long-term research projects from conceptualization to publishing. As a teacher and workshop presenter, I have inspired diverse student populations in their journey to learn scientific data analysis in R and the ethical and responsible use of GenAI in academic writing.
