I first dreamed of being an engineer around age ten after learning about Solar Roadways, an Idaho-based company "dedicated to bringing solar roadways to the world on a grand scale." I was completely enamored with this idea and my young mind couldn't understand why we weren't creating this infrastructure. It made so much sense. As a young adult, I now realize many of the challenges that have prohibited a complete overhaul of our interstate highway system. In addition to technology development and cost, there are energy storage and distribution challenges, and of course, political obstacles - and these are just a few things that stand in the way progress. My passion for renewable energy engineering falls directly in line with another passion - cars! It is not lost on me that my love of cars, what they are made of and my curiosity as to how they run, is essentially a love of many technologies working together to create this one thing that brings me so much joy! It has been my general wonder of cars that forces me to continue to learn and understand complex mechanical systems.I hope that I am part of the generation of engineers that significantly changes the makeup of a car's operating system such that it no longer requires a driver or fossil fuel and is perfectly capable of performing on solar roadways. After graduation, I hope to earn a position that will provide me the experience to use a degree in mechanical engineering to further renewable energy solutions in any number of industries including but not limited to automotive, infrastructure, and architecture. Until then, I am excited to continue learning about other engineering opportunities through coursework, Internships and workshops.
