Quite often we had to work on our own initiative as the shop was often left to student associates to manage. This job also involved being careful and meeting certain standards on how the food and drink should have been made.

I worked over the summer for SW Reclaims to give assistance through their busiest time of the year, just before the end of the PPI year. I worked on administration. This included being able to alphabetise names in the order the bank required and working as a team to get this done in time. This also included operating general office equipment and filing documents. Every week we were set with a target, which had to be completed, this meant learning to work in a fast-paced environment so as to finish before the next weeks target. I also gained more knowledge on the system in place at the company.

I worked at Homesense for around two and a half years as an associate. I did this part time while studying for two years and then worked full time for around six months. This entailed working with a team of around five to ten other associates on the shop floor. My main responsibilities as an associate would differ from each shift, but would include; making sure the shop was maintained to the highest standard before closing, flowing stock out every morning when the new delivery came, controlling tills and giving good customer service, handling money on a day to day basis, and being able to merchandise stock in a way that will encourage purchase. When I started working full time, I also partook in night shifts from 6pm to 6am.
