I am interested in wildlife conservation with a special focus on cetaceans. Animal welfare, both in managed care facilities as well as in the wild is another area of interest. As the executive director of The Texas Zoo, a small zoo in Victoria, TX, I have been given the opportunity to further explore these interests. Although this zoo is small, we are afforded the chance to do big, innovative things. As a 'mindful' zoo we are socially conscious and are actively exploring new ways to redefine what a zoo's role is in terms of visitor experience. How we can inspire positive changes in daily human behavior to protect wildlife? Furthermore, we are developing ways to bridge the gap of what happens in managed care facilities and connecting that to work in the field for visitors to better understand the important role zoos and aquariums play in wildlife conservation. We are also developing participatory research and educational programs to further engage zoo visitors and our local community. Specialties: Training marine mammals for open ocean programs, managing animal interactive programs, training sharks, rays, alligators and sea turtles, public speaking, training animals for research, behavioral consulting
