Profile bio

About Jerrod Altmeier

I have 20 years of experience in the Marine Corps encompassing all aspects of the Information Technology spectrum. I've been a technician and/or a manager of sections responsible for multiple versions of Microsoft Active Directory, Microsoft Exchange, Cisco switching, Cisco routing, VMWare, NetAPP SANs, even going back to older, foundational technology such as Token Ring and Banyan Vines. I've also held multiple planning billets, generally involving either these technologies specifically or finding solutions to integrate existing, big box solutions into disparate communications systems and vendor specific software systems. All of these I've done as considerations such as network security and change management have evolved from ideas into concepts being integrated into important, valuable parts of managing IT systems.I have also successfully managed and led sections of different sizes with different mission scopes. Managing IT technicians and engineers is an art and a skill; not many professions put people in charge of managing employees with such a highly technical, esoteric skill set. There needs to be a balance between technical knowledge and management ability that can really only be gained by directly having been a technician as well as having been and been trained and educated as a manager.I have also been involved in the procurement process of IT systems and equipment. The important skills taken from my procurement experience involve learning what different levels of management and leadership look for when vendors present their products. Every level, from the senior leadership to the trusted technicians, represent their own specific market segment. I have years of experience in understanding the considerations each different level of management and leadership, to include the considerations of the technicians and engineers, when being presented IT products.

Listed skills include Security Clearance, Military, Network Security, Dod, and 24 others.
