• Designed the overall control strategy for a hydrogen header operating at 4 different pressures from 90 to 6000 psig, fed by 3 hydrogen plants and utilizing 10 compressors. Developed material balance of the system and identified necessary plant modifications. Also implemented a load shed strategy triggered during a hydrogen plant trip. Claimed $9.6M NPV cost savings.• Provided instrumentation and controls recommendations for a distillation column revamp project. Performed steady-state simulation of the column to determine the control strategy.• Obtained considerable experience in design and operation of furnace combustion systems used to produce hydrogen, burn a tar stream and burn waste gas.

• Implemented model predictive controller for a diketene furnace, requiring model identification. Reduced natural gas usage and increased furnace life.• Improved batch reactor temperature control using split range control of cooling medium and catalyst flow along with controller tuning modifications. Facilitated greater production flexibility.• Led Basic Engineering Effort for CHDM Expansion project. Coordinated engineering efforts and interfaced with operating area and detailed engineering firm to produce heat and material balances, PFDs & P&IDs, equipment and instrumentation specifications, Process Hazard Analysis, and appropriations grade estimate.• Modified a chlorination feed system and associated PLC program to eliminate a product contaminant.• Made modifications to a plasticizer batch program that yielded faster reactor heat-up and better control of process inventories resulting in shorter batch times and improved product quality. NPV $240K.• Provided on-site startup support for a PETG facility in Kuantan, Malaysia. Tasks included controller configuration validation, controller tuning and trouble-shooting.

• Implemented pH and valve position controllers to neutralize a reactor product stream.• Led control effort for acetate tow and color developer design packages. Assignments included control strategy, safety interlock and P&ID development.• Spent 1994–1995 in a Process Improvement group within Acid Division with a focus on process control projects.• Implemented improved catalyst feed system for a plasticizer unit that reduced annual catalyst costs by $300K. • Implemented pressure compensated temperature control on a number of low boiler distillation columns; also implemented a pressure compensated flow measurement for steam flow to a column reboiler.
