Duties include managing editorial staff; writing, editing and assigning stories; strategic planning; and media appearances. That year, the magazine won the Utne Reader Independent Press Award for Best Political Reporting.As managing editor from mid 2003-early 2006, oversaw the transition of the magazine to its current monthly format and spearheaded a number of special issues, as well as managing production and editorial functions. In previous positions as assistant and associate publisher, worked with the magazine's staff to streamline business processes, manage the office, and develop special events and promotional strategies for expanding the magazine's impact and subscriber base.
