Giezenwww.facebook.com/CoralitaGirlsSuccessful establishment of exotic plant species on the BES islands (Bonaire, St. Eustatius, Saba) has profound negative and positive ecological and social consequences. Through a Social Ecological Systems approach the knowledge will be generated that is needed to assess the feasibility, as well as ecological and socio-economic costs and benefits of future nature conservation and management scenarios. Inference of invasive species’ spread from single image in time will be linked to potential responses of stakeholders and governance institutes to hypothetical management scenarios. Integration of the two sub-projects will lead to the development of a Decision Support System that enables optimisation of social and ecological benefits through appropriate management of invasive plants.

This dynamic network of young professionals, affiliated with Utrecht University, provides a platform for ambitious alumni and master’s students to inspire and challenge each other. Together we try to contribute to solving organisational, strategic and social challenge, focusing on public organisations which we visit or invite to meet with us. I co-organised a day with the national forest service (Staatsbosbeheer) in March 2014 on how to best manage national heritage. In October 2015 I co-organised a day with the Municipality of Utrecht, Lokalis and the Buurtteams on youth care.

San José, Costa Rica

The unit of international relations and cooperation manages all international relations of INAMU, both bilateral and multilateral. I provided support to the unit in the communication with both internal and external contacts about the international relations. This entails archiving past communications, facilitating meetings and events, and preparing future communications.

The Faculty Council is the participatory body for the faculty, which meets every six weeks with the Faculty Board. In preparation of this general meetings several committees and working groups meet and work on their own projects. As chairman of the committee Educational matters I was responsible for the preparation of the concerned topics by the six members of the committee. This was a position of half a day per week.

On behalf of Lijst VUUR I was a student representative at the University Council, which was a fulltime position. This council is the main participatory body for the university and meets every six weeks with the Executive Board. In preparation of those meetings several committees and working groups meet and work on their projects and the concerned topics. I was a member of the committee ‘Strategy, employee and student policy’ which meets with the chairman of the Executive Board, Yvonne van Rooy. I was also one of the two members of a working group that stimulated using second hand furniture at the university. In addition I was the secretary of the student representatives, chairman of the selection committee of Lijst VUUR and participated in a project regarding open access of scientific articles under supervision of the university’s library.

Internship arranged by the World Bank, focussed on the Climate Vulnerable Forum, currently chaired by Costa Rica. I assisted in the communication with external parties such as the UN and embassies. Also, I helped organizing conferences and events, and in the coordination of an inter-ministerial committee of humanitarian law.

WUR lecturer Otto Hospes was organising a college tour on human rights in collaboration with the Liberation committee of Wageningen. I organised speakers, communicated with the students, helped with the PR and with several other logistics.

Deltares is an independent institute for applied research in the field of water, subsurface and infrastructure with a main focus on deltas, coastal regions and river basins. I started as an intern at the department of Strategic Studies and Innovation management (SV&I) and became an employee some months after. I was one of the five Deltarian project members of the Climate Market Accelerator, a programme of the Climate-KIC. This is a European programme that aims at strengthening and articulating the demand side of climate innovations. In addition, I supported the team of Deltares involved in the Deltaprogramme, mostly by organizing meetings, taking minutes and building a wiki. The same goes for the Corporate Innovatie Programma of Rijkswaterstaat. Also, I evaluated Deltares’s SBIR procedure, in which SMEs could bring a Deltares innovation to the market. In addition, I accompanied the head of my Department in many strategic and organizational meetings.

VIDIUS is the advocating union of every student in Utrecht, which resulted from a merger of USF studentenbelangen, LinQ and OOFU in August 2011. As a member of the advisory committee of LinQ I had been involved in the merger. During VIDIUS’s first year, I mainly contributed to the positioning and further development of the organization. There were some internal challenges during that year, in which the committee mediated from time to time. Next to that, I supported the secretary in constructing and maintaining a contacts file.

LinQ facilitates and supports the student’s participation bodies at Utrecht University. As member of the AC I was closely involved in day to day matters, as well as the merger into VIDIUS. The board was undermanned, so many help of the AC went to practical matters.
