I am a software architect, data architect, and developer with over twenty years of experience. I possess a strong mix of communication skills, technical knowledge, problem-solving abilities, and the ability to manage an engagement. I have a passion for distributed systems (CockroachDB, Cassandra, NoSQL, scale-out systems, Spark), data science, system and data architecture. I am also a talented developer having built dozens of web sites and web services. I have a strong background in financial services, risk management, and eCommerce. I have extensive experience working with systems “at scale,” including several high-volume, transactional websites.I spent most of my early career using SQL Server as a Swiss Army Knife to solve every data issue. Over the last few years, I have evolved my thinking into a strategy of using the right tool for the right job. Sometimes, relational database is the right solution; other times, a search engine, a NoSQL database, a distributed SQL system, a data warehouse, or an analytical solution is the right answer.
